Imagination Library and Literacy
- Statewide Rollout: She visited Lexington, Kentucky, in August 2024 to celebrate the expansion of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library across all 120 counties in the Commonwealth.
- Early Adoption: Henderson County became the first Kentucky community to launch a local Imagination Library chapter over two decades ago.
- Free Books for Kids: The program mails one free book every month to children from birth to age five.
- Kentucky Colonel: Governor Andy Beshear and First Lady Britainy Beshear made Parton an official Kentucky Colonel in August 2024 during her statewide literacy visit. This is the highest title of honor given by the Commonwealth for community and national contributions.
- Bridge Tribute: Following her passing, the Big Four Bridge in Louisville lit up in rainbow colors as a tribute to her children's book I Am a Rainbow.
- Appalachian Ties: Coming from Sevier County, Tennessee, her shared mountain background, bluegrass heritage, and connections to eastern Kentucky coal mining and farm families created a strong cultural bond.
- Live Shows: Her history of performing in the state included memorable events like her 1978 Kentucky State Fair concert, her 1993 show at Louisville Gardens, or her magical performance at the Louisville Palace in 2008, as well as deep ties to regional bluegrass and country artists who toured or played in her musical circle (such as her longtime band, the Grascals).
